  • Review drawings and identify tools and equipment required to create item
  • Estimate quantities of materials required based on drawings
  • Identify key steps in construction and assembly process for individual components and complete item
  • Identify quality standards to be achieved
  • Identify and follow work health and safety requirements
       
Element: Follow construction and assembly processes
  • Confirm that tools and equipment are safe for use prior to starting work
  • Operate tools and equipment in accordance with safety requirements and manufacturer specifications
  • Lay out and accurately mark and cut materials to meet item specifications
  • Join materials in accordance with specifications
  • Assemble components using jigs or clamps and fastenings based on item requirements
  • Apply adhesives in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturer instructions
  • Confirm item meets quality standards and seek guidance from supervisor to address any deficiencies
  • Clean and store tools in accordance with procedures
  • Safely dispose of waste in accordance with procedures

Assessment Tasks

Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
